Vision is more than 20/20 eyesight. Of course it requires healthy eyes and visual clarity. But, that is just the first step. 20/20 just tells us that we can see far away objects clearly.
That basic visual information is then processed in the brain to give meaning to what we see. Our brain directs our eyes where to look, changes focus to see at different distance, guides our movements, and interprets the world around us. We are not born with all of these skills, they are developed throughout childhood.
Developmental Optometry is the analysis of how someone has developed these various visual skills that are necessary to maximize one's potential. If these skills are low, they can be improved through vision therapy.
Behavioral Optometry looks at how our vision affects our behaviors and how our behaviors affect our visual system.
